Take Time to Stop, Breathe, and Find Your Inner Peace During a Busy Season

As we enter Fall there is so much to look forward to, but for many it can be a season of work overload and stressors. School is back in session, summer vacations are over, and we enter a season of trying to balance work, family, friends, and holidays. It’s important to remember to be present within your own body and check in with yourself.

One of the best ways to be present is to choose a breathing technique and do it daily if not twice a day. This allows you to pause and reflect on how your body feels. It gives you the space and time to ask yourself "how am I doing?” and choose habits that help regulate the stress you may be feeling throughout the day. You can practice breathing during yoga/meditation with The Wellness Collective or when you have any quiet time to yourself.
One breath technique that helps relieve stress and anxiety is the 4-7-8 breathing method (a type of pranayama or yogic breath control). This method can also help you get to sleep faster.

Sit or lay down to start. First, begin to take a few gentle and slow breaths and notice how focusing on your breath feels. When you’re ready, begin to inhale in through your nose for a count of 4, hold your breath for a count of 7, and finally exhale for a count of 8. Do this for four cycles at first. As you get used to this breathing practice with time, you can work your way up to a cycle of eight breaths.

We hope this tip is helpful for you in creating your own self-care habits and feeling like your best self.
